Mycelial Meditations
Fungi do not only sustain us, nourish us, heal us, delight us, compose and decompose us; fungi radically challenge our sense of self.
Our understanding of lifeforms within the natural world as distinct and separate bodies is reimagined by our ever-unfolding understanding of fungi. For without our collaboration with this third kingdom, we cease to exist.
This workshop is a meditation on the partnership between all lifeforms that mycelium facilitates. A system of reciprocity and symbiosis that has been aptly named “the wood wide web”. Mycelium holds a mirror to many indigenous systems of knowledge and existential philosophies, illuminating a path to a more connected and sustainable future.
Reciprocal. Relational. Indeterminate.
The Workshop
Our journey begins with descent through the moss, soil, roots, hyphae and sediment layers that compose the forest floor to a subterranean world that hums with life. Here, a soundscape awaits that draws from the vibrations of the forest, merging therapeutic instruments with synthesised electronic elements to immerse you deep within the world that mycelium inhabits.
Various aromas will accompany this sonic composition, with peaty, earthy and mossy scents that evoke the humus layer of the forest-floor. As we dig deeper, an olfactory journey unfolds.
