The Eco-System Within

Our world is composed of complex ecosystems, an interplay of myriad cohabiting organisms in delicate balance. The range and diversity of organisms present within an ecosystem is crucial for earthly processes.

Similarly, our unfolding understanding of human biology show that humans too share the same ecological complexity. A microbial universe exists within each of us, with colonies of bacteria comprising our microbiomes. Fundamental pillars of human physiology - immunity, digestion, energetic and emotional homeostasis - have been directly linked to the microbiome.

Like the Earth’s ecosystems, the healthy functioning of our own internal ecologies hinge on biodiversity. However, where ecological biodiversity is threatened by exploitative human practices, so too are our internal microbial communities.

This workshop explores not only the importance of biodiversity conservation for our interior and exterior worlds, but how we may harness regenerative practices on farms and in kitchens to repopulate and maintain our ecosystems.

As above, so below…

The Workshop

This practice is opened with a process of seeding, in which a seed of intent is planted deep within the self. As this seed grows and blossoms, a soundscape carries you through various eco-systems. This soundscape features the aural representations of very specific ecosystems threatened by industrial agriculture through field recordings and scents of local flora; drawing parallels to the diverse microbial communities within. In spite of the concerning consequences these ecosystems face, this soundscape is a celebration of all life and a call for hope.
